If I was wearing a parachute, maybe.

1700 feet isn't much time to deploy and land a parachute and the extra weight and bulk would probably be the cause of your fall.

1700 feet is plenty, and modern parachutes aren't that heavy. I'd just wear it in case of getting too tired to climb DOWN. Then I'd base-jump on purpose. Falling accidentally, of course, would mean death anyway. you'd not fall outward, you'd just fall. Banging against everything on the way down until, most likely unconscious, you got pushed out to free-fall.

You'd hardly even need to BASE jump from that height - the UK minimum jump height (for displays) is 1500ft with a normal parachute. My lowest was 1750ft. Of course the forward motion of the plane helps deployment but I reckon you'd be ok from an antenna... probably... ;o)

WTF?!?! My body is like jell-o after watching that. My mental problem is with the stuff they're holding onto, and even clipping onto at the top. Two guys on a little screwed-down mast at the very end. I nearly lost my breakfast. How can they sleep at night?

That driving video is a typical commute for me.

....I could actually believe that of you, cats in the back, high on catnip of course, squirrel taped to the bonnet (hood), mouse running back and forth on the dashboard ;)

I'd catch that dashboard-mouse under a shoe box, too. Reflexes of LIGHTNING!

Cory, they both are using safety harnesses. No company would let their employees do this without one.

"This is called free climbing, meaning that no safety lines are used. It's easier, faster and most tower workers climb this way. Free climbing is more dangerous, of course, but it's allowed"

This is what they say about 1.50 mins in

I'd be free-hugging the ground. I wonder if that tower is swaying in the wind.

Do you have any doubt in your mind at all? Of COURSE it's swaying. It'll be swaying every time he shifts his WEIGHT by the time he gets up to the top...

Just one little piece of fatigued metal, with a crack to concentrate the stress, and bye bye. In geology, the line along the edge of a crack is called a "tip line". Imagine the stress put onto a tip line, especially when they put their weight further out on one of those ladder handles, it's like a lever. Craziness!

Funny hey... That car one just looks like fun to me but while I ain't especially scared of heights, that tower looked like unemployment benefits would be a far better choice :-) They did look to be making sure that 3 points are attached when free climbing but as strike says.... a bit of weakness and...

As for "free-hugging" - I always thought Terra Firma meant the more firmer the less terror but maybe I got me my latin mixed up some :-)

Camino Del Rey This may be my favorite internet video. 9 minutes of a guy walking an abandoned walkway from a mine built on the edge of a canyon in Spain. It is in HD so make it full screen!

Oh yeah, I remember that one - even sicker than the tower one, IMO.

Also wicked scary - apparently that's actually illegal but thrill-seekers commonly traverse it. UNREASONABLE :)
