I want to publish more images on flickr but some things are stopping me:

- I already have an unlimited storage website via smugmug.
- I think the interface is annoying and unintuitive; and naturally, you don't get much space unless you pay.
- I wonder whether watermarking is an issue and if I'm just opening my images to theft.
- it's not a super cool community with a super fun contest (like DPC ;)

SHould I watermark images? It just seems like very few images are watermarked.

ps: my lame photostream

You should just stick with smugmug I say. You can automatically watermark your images through there which is pretty cool

I like Flickr a lot, mostly for the community. There are user groups for every camera, lens or piece of software one might have. I've had people send me invites to other photo sites they are on, but I find that between Flickr and DPC, I have what I need and have the time for.

As far as yourself, it sounds like you have already decided it's not for you.

BTW, there are many add-ons and Greasemonkey scripts that can improve on the interface and tailor things to your liking.

I have both. My Flickr account is for the "fun shots" where I don't really care. I use my smugmug account for more serious (i.e. paid) work.

If you use lightroom then forget about the interface for pictures as you can load easily. If not there are a number of options so you don't have to use their interface to post stuff.

Some of the groups there are cool.

As for getting images ripped off... well... that can happen anywhere and no more or less with flickr (unless you could Getty over there :-), which you can set an option to stop).
