Hi,

wondering if anyone else has experienced their Canon 7D not having any power? I was using it during a photo shoot and then it just wouldn't turn on. I have taken it back to Canon and they have sent if off for repairs, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what was the outcome? Did they repair it or replace it?

Regards

Now, I am only asking because you didn't mention it - - did you swap out the battery?

Brooke,

I haven't experienced that but will tell you what I have experienced. Two weeks ago while shooting a soccer game my 7D became unresponsive. It was on, but wouldn't AF, couldn't use any buttons on the back, couldn't even turn it off. I took the battery grip off and back on and it worked again. Until I sat it down shot with the other camera and picked it back up again only to find it locked up and unresponsive again. Thinking it could be a grip issue, I stripped off the grip put the battery door back on and on battery in the camera. Next time I picked it up, same thing locked up. So I swapped a lens out to verify it wasn't the lens. Same issue. I called my CPS rep and he said send it in, he told me 3 day turn around to get it fixed. I'm not in the process of waiting 10-14 business days for them to ship a part to the repair center to get it fixed. In the meantime they have sent me a loaner camera to use until they fix mine. They are replacing the Main PCB in the camera. If yours went unresponsive but with the power off you may well have had the main board die on your camera as well.

Takes 7D off list. Have you researched this? Is it common for a 7D? Scary stuff.

Best I can tell it's not common. But it doesn't have to be common to happen to you. The 7D is an impressive camera for the money, it may well be a fluke what happened to mine. And Canon has already received the part and shipped my camera back to me this morning. Although they told me it was going to be 10-14 business days to get the part it took less than a week. I'm going to shoot with it a few days and then if all is well return their loaner camera to them. I shot about 3000 images with it before I had any issues, but with sports and multiple assignments it only takes a few weeks to run up 3000 images on a body for me, even as a second body.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update, Canon have advised me that the PCB has failed and needs to be replaced under warranty. The only problem is the part needs to come from Japan and is about 2 weeks away. I wonder if they will be using an upgraded PCB this time???

Same Failure as mine. They told me two weeks to get the part, however it was much quicker than that. probably a week later after they told me that I received my camera. I hope the same for you.
