There's already a thread called "Wouldn't it be nice" for a completely different discussion, but I thought I'd toss this out there.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could use an Eye-Fi card to transmit photos directly to a Droid (or iPhone) SD card? Better yet, use this combination to directly transmit shots to designated web sites or FTP directories as long as you have cell phone connectivity?

As far as I can tell, no such thing exists yet. I did see an app for rooted Droids (I'm not about to go tinkering with my Droid that way), but judging from the feedback, it works like crap.

Just wondering if anyone else has given this sort of thing any thought. I'd hope that within a year or so this sort of things should be easily accomplished, wouldn't you think? I'd love to be able to shoot stuff, click the "lock" button for an image, and have it instantly uploaded from anywhere. That'd be sweet :)

Would be great as a backup device and extra storage. No eye-fi CF cards, however. I guess the CF market is down to just DSLR's now and it's not worth their while.

If I can shoot a photo with my crappy cell phone and send it straight to my Facebook page, I don't see why this shouldn't be an easy thing to do. Would be good for spies, journalists, private eyes, and wedding photogs. ;-)

With my iPhone I can turn it into a wireless wifi router and YES you can transmit from you Eye-fi direct to my pc at home or to my smug mug website realtime. Just imagine shooting a wedding and the pictures showing up on a pc in the other room and backed up to smugmug while not stopping to transfter.

My iPhone uploads to Facebook, Smugmug and about 2 dozen sites if I shoot HD video using an app called Pixelpipe. It works well as I constantly upload HD video and pictures to both Facebook and Smugmug.

I do not use Wifi as I want to download to my pc and edit but I have used a friends on his point and shoot.

so yes you can...and easily
