You are just a slacker atheist Deb. Don't worry, they will be coming to your door soon. ;)

Who, exactly, are "they"? I can't even have the nice Mormon boys in - because I am that most horrible of creatures (a single woman!). I might molest them, apparently. How sad is that for a state of affairs?

And I don't know that I am an atheist. Perhaps a multideist or whatever that is. I believe there are any number of gods and all of them are right for those that believe in them. And I'm very fond of myths. Something sustaining and everlasting about a child's belief in unicorns and sprites, you know? (Seriously. There's a lot to be said for that.)

"they" are the devout atheists... :P

They have missionaries? I'll be nice to them, just as I am to the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, and the others who come to my door. I see no reason not to be, do you?

I don't like anyone trying to scare/guilt trip me into anything. I also don't like people coming to my door with a product I don't want, trying to sell it to me.

I'm not nice to them, actually I'm quite horrible to them, and would be worse to them if only I actually had a garden hose ready when they showed up...

Of course not (for the same reason there aren't any devout "no-such-thing-as-unicornists" knocking at your door). Doc's gone cuckoo.

Don't listen to Shannon. :) Anybody posting regularly on these threads is working to proselytize their position...

They might say, "I don't care what you believe", but it's, of course, not true because they keep posting over and over trying to show you (or really me) why I am wrong.

This is all mainly tongue-in-cheek, but only partly so. I know lots of religious people that lack 1/10th of the fervor of our local DPC atheists (which is probably too bad for them).

Gosh, Cory, remind me not to stop by! I've yet to have anyone try to scare or guilt trip me into anything. I've had pleasant people explaining something they believe in. Whether I buy into it or not is not important - the fact I listen and let them tell me is what matters. At least that's how I look at it. I'm nice to people selling things, too, though I rarely buy anything. I just don't see the need to be rude. I'm also old, outdated, and becoming less and less in touch with the real world every day, it seems. Soon I'll just disappear into the ether. Or become the old woman with cats. That's very likely...

I don't care what you believe, so long as you don't shove it down my throat. It makes no difference to me if you delude yourself. If you intentionally delude others, including the vulnerable, the meek, and children, as is the mandate with your flavour of belief, I care. If you tell me that I'm involved in your fantasy version of the universe by saying I'm going to hell, or won't be saved, or am an infidel and deserve beheading, or that science is fantasy and fantasy is science, or whatever nonsense, then you have involved me and of course I care what you believe, insofar as you should be compelled to keep this kind of nonsense to yourself. Universal "you" implied.

You fail to recognize that their pleasantness is just a cloak, disguising how they really feel about you and me. And they've never tried to guilt trip you? Hmm, who's stopping by your house? They don't sound very christian to me.. Christians hold, as a core value, guilt and they didn't tell you that if you didn't convert you'd go to hell? I'm suspicious.....

Oh, let us not forget that we are talking about a group(s) that, until quite recently, persecuted and killed everyone who was brave enough, or stupid enough, to publicly make known their disagreements. I don't think I want those people in my house, as a matter of a fact, I really don't want them near my house.

And Melethia, while I do sometimes find you a bit over-dramatic, I don't think I'd run you off, indeed, should you come to my home offering conversation or knowledge you are most welcome.. But come trying to convince me that your beliefs are indisputable, absolute truth, and I swear I will hose you down.

LOL! Yep, I won't be stopping by. I have no beliefs to share or impose or otherwise pass along* but I don't want to take the chance! And I'm rarely over-dramatic. That I know of. You can ask anyone who's met me - I could well be wrong, of course.

(*I do think that everyone should watch Lord of the Rings at least once, full versions, and preferably annually, but I would not impose that upon you nor call you an infidel if you preferred, say, reality television.)

Just to be clear, by overdramatic, I'm referring to your usual "The hell with everything I quit" throw up your hands sort of reaction I associate with you. Not that I dislike you, or anything of that sort, so don't get the wrong idea, I've just seen several examples of that sort of behavior, and generally have found it to be somewhat melo/overdramatic..

You're still welcome to come by for tea or coffee, or tequila sometime... Not that you would, but you're welcome...

Ah, so I am overdramatic.

Well fine, then dammit! I quit!

Looks like the koran is an affront to the atheist religion as well. :P

although he doesn't have the cajones to burn a real one.

As predicted, various forms of koran and bible burning will be popping up all over the internet and many will undoubtedly get the attention they seek. Just like the guy in the link above which I watched and then shared. Doh!

The drama just never ends. Hopefully the Mayans were right though and it will all be over in a couple years. :)

If I could arrange it, could you just burn Dawkins for me? :)

As funny as you may want to sound Doc, you are not. In your mind you find it funny to joke about burning a human being because he doesn't share your thoughts about religion and that puzzles me. Nobody here has called for the burning of Mr. Jones, even jokingly. It only belittles you Doc in my truly honest opinion.

Whatever Jac. It was obviously a joke. You are the one who started the thread offering to do something synonymous with the actions of an "idiot" as you quoted. If this whole thread isn't a joke, then I'm not sure what it is...

I can see you as the great leader of some cult that ultimately your followers will call a religion. You fit the ticket Doc. You may be the next Jim Jones, who knows?

In this video The Amazing Athiest burns three books: Koran, Bible, and The God Delusion.

This Koran stunt does a great job of upsetting people who have trouble separating reality from symbolism.

IMO, people who get all bent out of shape by this sort of thing are kooky. But hey, I'm a lot kooky in other ways, so lets all get our kook on and celebrate our wackiness.

Funny, all this time I thought I had been playing whack-a-fallacy.

I certainly was. Fallacy is apparently Achoo's native language, and his 'atheism is a religion' post was riddled with them. I posted a link to a letter that mirrored his post almost exactly... and was subsequently dismantled with two cups of reason, an teaspoon of common sense and a dash of intelligence. I'm sure if Jason knocked on Melethia's door he could borrow some. ;-)
