Hi there. I'm still learning my ways in Photoshop and before tis competition I did'n know whow to do selective dessaturation. So my entry was my fist attempt an this one here is my second. So please be as critique as you want about it.
I would like to achieve a blured background in the back of my cat, but how can I do it with all the fur? I was afraid it would be notticiable that it was been altered in the transition zones with lots of fur stiking out.
Tanks for your trouble.

Nuno, you've got some very strong b&w images in your portfolio. If you could perhaps bring some of that emotion (and contrast) to the selectively desaturated parts of your photo, it would make the image much stronger.
With this photo of your cat, it nearly blends into the background because of all the midtone gray. If you were to effectively blur out the background, there had better be a lot more contrast or it would have the negative effect of softening or merging itself into the cat's fur.
In this particular photo, I wouldn't attempt at blurring the background for the reasons I mentioned earlier. Best would be to reshoot, using the widest aperture setting possible. F/5 won't do the trick of reducing the background to an abstract blur. Once you have more seperation of blurred background and focused fur in the foreground, it will be easier to bring the elements in the foreground sharper and the background softer.

I have this thing for 3d images..and I think if somehow you could blur out the background like branorama said..then sharpened up the cat a little..and i don't know how..but somehow bring the cat forward just a little bit..and make the nose pink..that would be awesome. |
