I might was well toss it out there.... the 430EX II is a great flash either paired up with a 580EX or used on it's own. I've see it priced as low as $260 and it gives you the option of using TTL metering in situations where you might need it. You also gain the option of using Canon wireless (optical) triggering. I prefer to use mine in manual mode, but I have no problem setting it in ETTL if I'm in a situation that will change quickly or where I will not have quick access to the flash. I'm said my bit... now you can continue with the non-canon discussion :-)

If budget allowed that would be exactly what I'd get.
