I's be THRILLED if they'd add the flip-screen to the 5D, it makes it SO much easier on us old, creaky folks when we want to shoot from a really low angle... I can't imagine why every camera does not have it. It's the only thing I miss about my Coolpix 5900...

In the end, I'm quite pleased with my 50D, that camera is more like a rebel than anything, basically it's just a really nice freaking rebel.
Correct me if I'm wrong of course. :) |
How does an upgrade to the 50D look more like "a really nice freaking rebel" then the 50D...I'm curious. |

I don't think it's being touted as an upgrade to the 50D. The review even calls it a Super Rebel.

Again, that's just not possible. Look at 7D features it has, look at the faster frame rate, look at the sensor and sensor size, look at the AF system, look at the LCD, look at the prism, look at everything that is upgraded over the 50D and closer to the 7D which is obviously the more advanced camera of the two. It's obviously far more advanced than a Rebel, and an obvious in between camera that resides in the middle of the 50D and 7D. All that spells upgrade to the 50D, and naturally they wouldn't have called it the 60D...the latest in the family if it wasn't. |

60D Super Rebel (compared to 50D)
Frame rate is faster ehh? Nope.
Resolution is better? Yep.
AF System? Same.
Metering system? WOOT! A real upgrade - stolen from the 7D
Magnesium Body? Nope..
Bigger Battery? Check..
Swivel Screen? Yep..
Video? Yep..
-------
The only thing on that list that tempts me in the least are the larger battery/7D sensor and metering system.. I'm completely stunned at the use of the 50D's AF which is .. good enough, but could have used a nice upgrade..... Then again, that would mess with the 7D sales...
Don't really see this as a real upgrade... And the lower frame rate would not be super cool either, I already wish my 50D was faster...

Exactly Cory. I was actually playing the devils advocate and being a bit tongue in cheek sarcastic. I'm totally disappointed with the design and feature elements of this camera, and can't believe I held off so long on getting a 7D in hopes of the 60D bringing something new and exciting to the table. I can't believe it's smaller and has a plastic body. If I could get past that I might have even more negative things to say about the camera, but that's simply a deal breaker for me. I will continue with my plans to get the 7D. It took so long to wait for the 60D to compare that the 7D MK II is probably around the corner...sigh. Who knows though...they might stick that in a plastic case too and double the price with my luck! |

The silver lining is that the 7D will have dropped in price in that time ;) |

It's below the 50D so not an upgrade. Super Rebel as the preview calls it. One more thing to support this, plastic body.

Every time a new Rebel, and now the 60D, is announced, I read all these complaints about the camera being too small. The smaller size and weight is one of the major temptations to me because I've got very small hands. I've picked up a 7D before and I suppose I could learn to handle it, but smaller would be better. At the same time, if the focus system of the 7D is that much better, I may have to go for the bigger camera anyway. I will need to do a lot of reading and weigh up all the pros and cons. I do like the sound of the swivel screen though.

Well I just read that the 60D hasn't got micro-adjustment. As I've always felt unhappy about the focussing capabilities of my Rebel, that may just be a dealbreaker.

I'm just the opposite. At 6 foot 4 inches, 235 pounds I need a larger camera. As for getting used to a heavier camera you definitely would, but you have to use it for at least 3 to 7 days for that to happen. In the last couple of months I added a battery grip with an extra battery, two lenses that are far better than the kit (15-85mm and 70-300mm) which are also 3 times heavier than the kit lens. I also have the added weight of my Manfrotto release plate (Manfrotto 808RC4 head...hefty) for my 055XProB tripod and head. So needless to say when I put the grip, extra battery, 15-85mm lens, and release plate all together the weight was substantially different and most noticeable. After using it for a few days my body adjusted and got used to it. So it will take a little time depending on the person.
It's amazing how the grip and new lens etc. transformed my XSi into something bigger and better. To look at it one might mistake it for a 1D or 5D if they weren't familiar with cameras and only saw the new square shape. I love it, but still can't wait to get a 7D and use the XSi as a nice reliable backup. Still have my trusty Canon S5 IS as well. It's an advanced point and shoot (hybrid type camera) and not a DSLR, but I feel everyone should still have that emergency camera to take with them when they only want to carry something small and quick. For me that's the S5. :)

Not to mention the fact that added mass dampens movement, so if you're strong enough to hold it up, it'll help you stay still (to a point anyway.) |

A very good point, and one that I agree with. |

It's the reason I use the 100-400 as a walk around lens on occasion.. |
