In short, turn the United States in modern Germany. Agreed.

Some truth to this, perhaps, although their "poets and thinkers" appear to have been retrained and out-sourced...

...I'm still wondering why no one seems concerned about how ignorant USA-ans are, and what might be done about it. Did we truly exhaust that subject?

Reform the educational system from the present commerce/career-centred ways to a humanistic system, hire teachers who care and can control a class rather than certified conformists, give those teachers the tools they need to get the student's attention, stimulate and support gifted students as opposed to forcing them to conform to the mean; install more journalists with a little integrity and provide access to global media from a global perspective for everyone, turn the churches into art galleries, encourage excellence rather than mediocrity in all aspects of life, including entertainment...

This reads to me as a pretty conservative view. Thought that was what school vouchers basically offered. Thought the ACLU had essentially stripped all discipline from the schools and with no discipline one gets chaos and mediocrity. Should be no surprise to those who advocate all are equal and give to those who won't do for themselves.

The present school system is the product of years and years of purposeful crafting. Why would one complain about the results from what they advocated?

The public school system is public. Meaning you can attend for free. It is a clear representation of government at its most generous. Therefore it must be good. eta: too bad many students don't take advantage of the opportunity.

Regarding the thread title - America is ignorant and the public school system is a prime example. We should probably give them more money - that will surely fix it.

Nice one. The Roberts court surely screwed it up when they allowed unlimited, unregistered donations to non-profits and then allowed these non-profits to buy political ads.
