I took my shot knowing I could enter it in the yellow or the misquote contest... either way the score probably wouldn't be different.
4.58 thus far :/ |

The line might have been said but attributed to the wrong person?? This isn't black or white, there are many shades of gray. Don't misquote me on that! Haha |

I agree that some of these are so commonly accepted, that it is not realized they are misquotes, unless one researches them. |

You got that right!! I'm afraid I'm going to have to vote accordingly. I guess people don't bother to look up the definition of the challenge. |

Up over a 6 now. I still stand a chance of catching up to you, Will. Then again, the fates of DPC could trash me into the 4's just for saying that.

Now I'm second guessing myself. In some definitions, it states that These are quotes that are either commonly attributed to the wrong person, or in fact were never actually said which would indicate if you changed one word of a famous quote, then that would also make it legitimate for the challenge. AUGHHHHH |

I did a bunch of research before the challenge and most of the entries are misquotes of one sort or another. Keep in mind that you may be more familiar with a paraphrase/misquote than the original. A quote of a misquote is a quote. |

Surely by that definition there is no such thing as a misquote in this context then

"My way or the highway." Wonder if that's listed somewhere as a 'misquote.'
In a way I feel sorry for the 42 brave souls who entered this Challenge. Each of them found a quote/misquote and interpreted it as best they could. But others say, "No, if it's not interpreted in a specific way, it's wrong!"
Just a thought: Let's give these entries the benefit of the doubt and vote accordingly. Otherwise, we'll be reduced to Challenges like
Rock, Sissors, Paper, with someone undoubtedly concerned that "Rock" should be "Stone"!
And, yes a huge smile at the end of this little plea.

You have fair point here but I think the onus falls to those who decide upon the challenges, to avoid these situations.
In this case there could have been a list of say 20 Misquotes/Quotes from which we had to choose. |

Well, one could generate an original misquote, but then it wouldn't be recognizable. All famous misquotes are quotes of misquotes ;-) So like Alice says, give the benefit of the doubt.

I understand that completely. But, I can take photos for me anytime. If I'm entering them on dpc, sometimes I do it just to get a particular response from the viewers. |

Sigh, I definitely made a mistake.
I had a much better Yellow entry, but chose to enter in this one because there were so many fewer entries.
But now I am certain I would have gotten a higher score in the other one. |

I agree with you for sure but don't be fooled into thinking that just they are real misquotes because you got them from a list online.
It's a bit like saying "it must be true because I read it in the paper" |
