Here's a shot I just took tonight.

Not bad, but look closely at the Harley Davidson badge on the saddlebag...here's a 100% crop.

Yikes! What is this? Camera shake or purple fringing or what? Seems too far from the edge of the picture to be fringing so badly. Does the fact that it's overexposed have anything to do with it? Hope so (user error is easy to fix).

I looks like a reflection to me and a bit over exposed. I wonder what lighting was around there?

Yes, the overexposure has a lot to do with it. What you're seeing is blooming. The light is leaking to adjacent photosites. This can happen to differing degrees with different lenses, depending on the shape of the wavefront they produce. Grossly overxposed areas directly adjacent to a very dark area is the worst case, though, and all lenses will show this to some degree.
