A long time ago, 3-4 years, I floated the exact same idea; I called it the "Crapshot Challenge", and the idea was that the subject wouldn't be announced until after all the entries were in and voting started. Only those lucky enough to have grabbed a shot that happened to meet the challenge would get a decent score.

The idea never gained any traction, LOL. Maybe it will this time around...

Well, there you go. "Crapshot" v. "Secret". Sometimes titles do make a difference. ;-Þ

I suspect some sort of Freudian typo is involved here, and that the original idea would be better defined as "Crapshoot" rather than "Crap Shot" ...

Remember, it's been conclusively demonstrated that a water drop shot can be shoehorned into any challenge ... ;-)

A "crapshoot" and a "crapshot" (or crap shot) are not quite the same thing. Here's the urban dictionary on crap shot:

Father: Don't get depressed about not getting that scholarship son; it was a crap shot at best. Out of the thousands that applied for it, they awarded it to two, maybe three people. I̢۪ve applied for jobs I knew I was 100% qualified for and would have made an excellent employee. I never heard anything.

Son: Why?

Father: Because they get so many applicants that someone even seeing my resume is a 500 to 1 shot.

Son: Rather like that scholarship. Although I had the grades and other requirements, so many other people applied that the odds of even hearing from them were like one on a thousand.

Father: Exactly, it was a crap shot. But, although it̢۪s a crap shot, keep trying. Some day you̢۪ll be the one guy in a 1000 they select.

I maybe think it's a question of tense -- "Entering a raffle is just a crapshoot, unlike talent-based contests." Or maybe the phrase is just morphing ...

The lottery is a crapshoot; entering it is a crap shot.

Which I guess is why I thought the challenge should be a crapshoot ... besidea, with your phrasing you might end up with all the DNMC police feeling forced to give something like this a 10 ... :-(

Please, please stop messing with my mind this way, I've just had a stroke and am having difficulty articulating concepts at the current time. Have you no mercy?

Absolute silliness tends to be a sick kind of sense - for better or for worse. I think an improvement on the theme would be to drift in the direction of gambling. Give the entrants a horse to put their money on. Half a dozen themes and you don't know which one's coming out of the hat. Entrants will then proceed to fool themselves that they have made rational decisions. Hahaha. Double blindness will also come out when the smardt azrse who enters 'theme #1 object watching a theme #2 riding a theme #3 through theme #4 during a theme #5 while...' , doesn't know how such cunning will be - er - rewarded by voters

Ken, I think it's a brilliant idea!! Great laughs.

How about a twist where you get a few hints at later and later intervals... maybe the full theme is only released 1 hr before the cut off or something :-)

What would be the point of that, at least in the context of this discussion? It would be wildly divisive in terms of who was able to take advantage of the latest hints, in terms of time zones, work schedules, childrens' dance recitals, whatever.

Your prob right... was just trying to think of some way to reduce the wild variations.... otherwise it's just a free-study.

It's a Free Study....UNTIL rollover at which point the topic is made known and you could have a winner or something WAY off base and the voting should be on how well the photo meets the topic, not just "oh, pretty". Total crap shoot! :P I'm in....

Isn't this the same process that the U.S. Congress uses to pass bills into law?? You have to vote on it so you can find out what's in it!!!
