My wife and I recently won a trip to the Mediteranean. We will be on a boat going to the following places
Barcelona - Marseille - Monte Carlo - Livorno Florence - Rome - Naples. With the limited time we have as well as never having travelled to the area before (We live in Port Elizabeth - South Africa) I am looking for advice on where to go to take the best photo's without wasting time as we only have one day in each port.
Any advice would be appreciated.

When in Naples, you HAVE to go to either Pompeii or Herculaneum. The former is very famous and crowder. The latter is a lot less famous, better preserved, a heck of a lot more impressive and ALOT less crowded. In Rome (you'll be arriving in Civittavecchia) you can either go for the Roman ruins or the Vatican. Don't get me wrong, the Vatican is very nice, but I would pick the ancient sights if I only had one day because they are very close together and mostly free, except for the Coloseum where you have to pay to go inside. How you are visiting Florence on a cruise I don't know, but if you do make it there, the Duomo is a must. Lines for the Ufizzi and the Accademia are incredibly long at this time of year. The Ponte Vecchio is also very picturesque. I haven't been to Florence yet, but that is common knowledge. As for the rest of you intinerary, I'm totally clueless. Just my 2 cents, I hope it helps.

Well since you will be pulling into port in Livorno you should check out Pisa. It is only about 20 minutes from the port. Of course you've got the Leaning Tower but the Duomo and the Baptistry are very nice too. You could spend the day in Pisa walking around and get plenty of great photos. Florence is a great place too. It is about 45 minutes to an hour from Livorno. I would suggest heading to the Piazzale Michelangelo, it has a great view of the river Arno and city below. It requires a long walk up or you can take the city bus system up there(watch out for pick-pockets). Don't bother with the Uffizi or Accademia(no flash photography allowed) but still worth going to see just for the art itself if you have the time. There's so much to photo in Florence, there's great architecture everywhere you look.
In Rome, depending on the day you could see a great deal. If you have the time go into the Vatican Museums and go see the Sistine Chapel. No flash photography is allowed and the wait may be very long. It may not be a good idea if you've only got one day. If you don't go into the museum you still can get some nice photos of St. Peters Basilica. Don't forget the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Pantheon. So much to see in Rome, so little time.
Obviously check out Pompeii and Herculaneum but if the cruise offers a side trip to Capri try to go. Capri is gorgeous and there are plenty of photo opportunities too. If you go, check out the Grotto Azzuro. If the conditions are optimal it can be an awesome experience. Sorry I know this is a lot, but I lived in Pisa for three years and every weekend I was on the road traveling. It's too bad I'm still not there I could show you around. I'll try to dig up some photos and upload them. Have a great time.

Edit to tell you to check out the marina in Monte Carlo. The yachts are huge and awesome. Don't worry you can't miss the Marina, the city wraps around it.

Lines at the Uffizi are ALWAYS long, which is one reason why they are now open until 10pm or something. That helped somewhat to reduce the lines, but still always crowded. The whole area around the Uffizi, Santa Croce, and Duomo is a photographers heaven, so have fun!

When visiting the Trevi Fountain, be aware that it's on a very small square with a lot of people on it, which means pickpockets' paradise, so take care. For a great view of the city go onto the Gianicolo (west) or the Pincio (north east, above the Spanish Stairs and close to the Villa Borghese).

I also second the recommendations for Pompeii or Ercolano, both are gorgeous but Ercolano is smaller and much less crowded. Ercolano is also closer to Naples itself, Pompeii is further to the south (but with a train station next to the entrance, only a few stops from Naples).

Barcelona
- Sagrada Familia. Great building, museum and good view over the city from the towers.

Monte Carlo
- Squere in front of the Prince Palace. Good view over the harbor and the city.
- The Casino squere, lots of Ferraris.

Florence
- Santa Croche. Beautiful churts and a resting place of Michelangelo, DaVince, Galileo, Dante and more masters.
- Piazzale Michelangelo. Great view over the city.

Rome
Rome is my favorite city and one day there is like going to the movies for five minutes.
If you are into a litle walking I recomend this:
- Start at Piazza de Fiore and go to Piazza Navona (may not be missed), Panthenon, Fontana de Trevi and Piazza di Spange. Great view over the city and the Vatican from the hills above the Spainish stairs. If you have the time then walk that way to Piazza del Poplo.
There is so much more but I recomend the Foro Romano and Colloseum of course but leave the Vatican for last unless you are ready to spend a day in its museum.

I wish you a very pleasent trip but dont forget to just enjoy being there.
