Could be rusty crusty - or gleaming teutonic efficiency . . could be a train wheel on a track - or hammer & nail, can opener and can, robot and spaceship, metal plate in head and electro-magnet . .

Ah, I get it now. First thing I thought of by your subject was dissimilar metals resulting in corrosion. A visit to this place might be in order for the topic:
