Lets so in advanced editing, I want to do a picture that will use a filter as a texture. I understand that I am allowed to do that. What if I want to edit that texture though, as in delete parts of it or color some parts a different color. I would only be editing the texture, not the actually photogaph it's self.

Can anyone help me out here. I might want to do a displacement mapping to a future image for a challenge whenever the appropriate one comes up...

What am I allowed to do and not allowed to do to a filter or a texture?

Uh oh, I stumped everybody... Do I get a prize?

No, the site gets a booby prize for exceptionally inscrutable editing rules. Not that it's a simple task to make them perfectly transparent and straightforward, far from it, and not that they haven't tried, because lawd knows they have, but still...

My guess is displacement maps (or bump maps) wouldn't be legal because that would give the impression of actual 3d surface features that weren't present in the original capture. In other words, it would be more than just an effect but a transformation of the object itself or at least the appearance of such.

ETA: As for applying a texture filter selectively that should be legal.

I guess so since its all about appearances. I wouldnt be doing anything at all to the actual image. I would be applying the displacement filter to the texture.
