What exactly has Apple been spending their time making for the last 10 years?
This speaks for itself...

The day I see one of these in a store I'll believe it but until then this is just a wannabe pipe dream from HP.
Price? |

A gadget that actually works?
Either the HP hardware did not function properly, the software was no good, or their marketing department didn't do whatever Apple's did ... perhaps that's why they fired our current Senator-wannabe ... :-( |

I would MUCH rather use a device that the software is a bit chunky, but you still get USB ports, audio jacks, SD Card slot, video output, stereo sound, 24 more gigabytes of space, a faster processor, AND a larger screen. Sure the iPad looks nice, and it's a bit more user friendly. But having apple call it "a laptop but better" is a totally incorrect call.
While Apple may have been working to get the device user friendly, they totally missed the point of having a "handheld device". What exactly can it do that a laptop can't? And what exactly can it do that an iPhone can't?
To me, the iPad was an excuse to open a second AppStore...

I don't think Apple ever claimed that the iPad would replace laptops or the iPhone. Or even netbooks for that matter. |

Don't worry -- I haven't bought any of these devices. To be honest, I'm a System 9 Luddite when it comes to Apple ... :-( |

Or it speaks incorrectly.
No stereo? No headphone plug? No video out? The iPad has all those things, plus there's an available SD card reader and USB connector. RJ 45 . . . who cares, it has wifi. I notice wifi is not mentioned for the HP. The RJ 11 will come in real handy for those dial up modem fans. Even for 2003, dial up was too slow to matter.
Also, they conveniently left off the thickness dimension, 1.5" maybe?. Oh, and no multitouch interface. Yeah, have fun with that bad boy.
Where did you get this crap? |

Let's see ...
HP - Stylus; Apple - Finger (Oh quit, not THAT finger)
HP - Complex; Apple - Simple
HP - Lots of moving parts; Apple - One (1) moving part
HP - Disconnected; Apple - connected
HP - Windows (defrag, updates, re-imaging); Apple - Just works
HP - Corporate; Apple - Comfort
I'll resist the temptation to continue.
Q.E.D.
eta: Just one more ...
Roughly Analogous to:
HP - Penile implant; Apple - Take a blue pill!
