My admiration for your work has grown leaps and bounds Julia. I wish I have one tenth of your talent. Then I can really call myself a "real" photographer.

This interview is really awesome. It reads like you are participating in the interview itself. Very illuminating ... the questions are very insightful. Congratualtions! Hope that the Site Council is putting all the interviews together into one collection.

I had suggested it after the first interview, and am hoping there will be an opportunity for this after the next wave of site updates. :)

This interview was simply too cool! I loved getting the insight from the female point of view. I've found that women seem to be more in sync with the artistic side of human nature. This comes across in much of Julia's people photography! Meanwhile, I (and I think a lot of men) have to think about being artistic and thus have to work at it more...

Oh and Julia, now I don't know which quote to have in my sig: The one that's already there or Photography is not just a pleasure, it is a need. Like breathing air or drinking water...I need it.

So true!! Men tend to also focus on the Hardware too!! We (at least I) obssess about the newest fastest badassest gear...and have to work hard to see the artistic aspect...right brain left brain...

Yes, you need to replace it. It's poignantly true, yet not widely known. I'd lobby for it.

Nonsense. I refuse to get stereotyped like this. :-)

But it's true, look at some of the hardware threads and most of the people doing the drooling are guys...

I especially liked the direction dan took a few of the questions.. I know you have a standard set, but you tailored a few and I adored those questions the most! Julia, you are a wonderful talent-- and if you want some help figuring out dpc prints, let me know!

I was just now wondering when we'd hear from you again :)

Looks like some lively competition in the artistic review department ...

Great job Dan and Julia!

Thanks to everyone for your encouraging comments. I have to say that DPC has been a huge influence in helping me find my way back into photography. Because I am now divorce, my joke and truth is that photography was my first and lasting love. This site has helped me in finding my way through the digital darkroom...and it still does. It even alerts me of major news events. I never watch tv and rarely pick up a newspaper. The radio music is repetitive...so choose not to listen to that either. I get my news from scanning the forum threads...honest. :) So..thanks to everyone for being a community. Tis a great site...despite my rebellions ;)

I think she has nice work, but I get sorta bored of all the nudity...

:) I am kidding no doubt, she is one of me favorite photograhers here.

Great interview.

Julia, it is nice to know you better. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

I got a good laugh from your explaination about the "Death" shot. LOL

Your photographs are awesome. I love your work. I would have to say my favorite shot of yours is your daughter in the trunk "the stowaway". I love the soft feel to it. My next favorite is "Recital". The soft colors and the movement of the dresses are perfect.

Great interview Julia! Couldn't help but notice that you mentioned you wished there was a zigzag part on your dentist shot and had to see the effect for myself, hope you don't mind. I think it adds to the image, no matter how poorly I technically executed it ;)

Reminds me of a scene from early in Jack Nicholson's career ...
