A coworker just sent me this link to some images from the Daily Mail, and asked if the images were fake, as the comments suggest it, but don't outright say so. To me, they look like some elements may have been 'shopped, especially the overlap of the antelope and cheetah, but I'm not certain. Three cheetahs spare tiny antelope's life... and play with him instead

I am no expert, but looks like they are clearly P'shopped.

Well now that I have looked at the complete reel, it is hard to say they are photoshopped...

I vote for 100% true. I don't see any Photoshop.

If its shopped its one heck of a job, the background is smooth, the shadows are perfect, there is no signs of photoshopping.

My cat will often play with bugs rather than eat them. Then, other times, goes right for the kill. I think these shots are real. If the cheetahs werent hungry, they might just play with the impala.

They ate the antelope. Cheetahs don't do charity work.

there is no shadow along the top of the antelope's back .. like the cheetahs have it ... I say it's shopped

I dont think people have looked at the original compilation. See here.

And then, see here for a shot, titled:

Image numéro : 916786
Copyright : Biosphoto / Michel & Christine Denis-Huot
Title : Three young brothers Cheetahs eating a young Impala Kenya
Caption : After playing with the young Impala, Cheetah brothers have killed it and eaten.

ETA: It is not an Antelope. It is an Impala, FWIW.

Excellent observation. In the first picture, the antelope should have a strong shadow pointing to about 2 O'clock like the cheetahs do. There is no shadow.

isnt there software that will determined if a photo is authentic? I remember hearing about it when the al queda video started to come out and they showed the background was edited in.

you see the tiniest bit of shadow from the impala by its front legs and a small shadow under its hind leg, reason you dont see it as predominantly as the cheetahs is because the impala is much much closer to the ground and you cant see behind it, i think its real, just really strange, i knew cats liked to play with their food but this is a little extreme lol

But they're in serious training to be hunters. It may look like play, but it is deadly serious. The cheetahs' very survival depends on it. There are a lot more impala than cheetah out there.

No impalas were hurt during the filming of this scene...except the one you see which was later killed and eaten by the cheetas.

Right. Sometimes journalism craves for stuff to happen which can be captured for fame/money. I am reminded of the famous famine picture that got the journalist a Pulitzer, and a suicidal depression not too far into future.

I think you're right. Seems I recall seeing a couple more frames.
