My Unusual Viewpoint shot has only received 1 comment, and I never got a Critique Club comment on it.

Any comments nice, harsh or otherwise greatly appreciated.

I gave the shot a 6 during voting. I think it is a good shot with an unusual viewpoint, but there wasn't a WOW factor invloved in the shot. I'm sure there are people who love photos of bridges and this would be a great shot for them, but it's just not my cup of tea. Hope this helps a little. By the way, I really like your Head Shot Proof photo in your profile. I have a feeling you will be seeing more ribbons in the future.

Thanks Todd.

Any other takers? Feel free to be brutal or rip to shreds... (Seemed to work for Konador :)

OK, here goes. I gave you a 7, and I don't score many very high. I do admit that I personally just love this type of shot. But I thought it went above the mundane because of the motion of the perspective you obtained in the upper right region. All the colors are beautifully harmonious and none are pale or over-saturated. The focus is crisp. And again, I thought it was good for Unusual because you took an under-the-bridge shot and got a whole new "arrangement". I can see how it wouldn't have that WOW appeal to many, therefore you wouldn't score the very highest. I think there were a lot of excellent submissions in that challenge, and that makes it harder to stand out, I think.

I scored this a 7. Overall, it seems like a good picture, especially the composition is powerful to me. Some details that could account for the low score you received: lighting on the underside of the bridge is uneven, is that reflections from the water? Also the lines between the bridge and the cables from which it is hanging seem out of focus, maybe because they're moving (you don't specify shutter speed, so I may be wrong here). And the fact that the sky in the bottom left corner isn't as saturated as the rest makes this less than perfect. I do feel that these details aren't major, your overall score seems a bit low to me.

Edited to add: as Kylie already pointed out, there were a lot of good submissions in this challenge, which may explain the lowish score.

I didn't score it (not a member...) but..

Focus, DOF and general composition are good, and the colour in the sky is great, due partially to the polarizer I assume...

The shadow highlights on the suspension cable are a little distracting, caused by sun angle or another building?

As someone else has said, it's a good picture, but not much wow factor. I'd even be tempted to suggest that the point of view isn't all that unusual, as lots of people drive under bridges every day around the world.

For dpc (as has been mentioned in lots of threads) the theme has to jump out and smack the viewers in the face, this one is different, but I've seen similar views driving under bridges so it didn't leap out for me. Either that or your photo has to be of a dead bug in fantastic focus taken from 1mm away from it's eye. :-).

Getting this shot a bit later in the day, or ealier with some sunrise/sunset red/orange hues in the sky might have lit the shot up quite a bit, but that would depend on clouds etc.

My 2c worth, Chris.

Thanks everyone!

The lighting was a bit odd, there were shadows on the cables from other cables. It was near sunset. The perspective was unusual, for me, because I'd never been below the bridge like that before (there aren't any simple routes, and in the past the area around the GWB was considered iffy.

I didn't vote on this challenge, but this would likely be a 5.
The sky and clouds are nice, however I'm not keen on the composition. "What am I supposed to be looking at?" is my first thought. My eyes are drawn to the 'tower' on the right hand side with all its detail and I can't help wishing that that was the main focal point of the image.

HTH!
