Well thanks for sharing. I find this stuff invaluable information for those trying to sell their work outside the portrait/wedding scene.

Ok, the show is over :(

Picked up the photos, the barrista was interested in buying the Nature's Palette (NYC skyline) shot, or my Water Colors canvas, but I think they were out of her price comfort range. She'll consider a print instead. She said that people really liked them and she heard many comments.

I had some interesting "interactions" while I was taking them down. I think people figure if you're there with a step ladder and boxes, and taking things off the wall, you must work there. Since I must work there, I think people figured it was ok to treat me rudely.

When I got there I was carrying in all these canvas boxes, not too easy, got the door open and some women was at the door and said "perfect timing", so I could hold the door for her and her coffee as she left. Not to worry about what I'm carrying. But that was ok.

And then I was using one of the big tables which has the papers in the center, and I was sorting through the hooks, to give starbucks back theirs. Then someone comes in, walks to the table I'm at, starts grabbing papers from the center "bin" and spreading them out to rifle through the--right on top of my hooks I have out on the table.

Lastly, when I'm almost done, I'm grabbing the last box, and I look over at my stepladder, and there's someone sitting in the chair next to it, and he has his glass of lemonade on the stepladder as if it were a table. He's reading the paper and I walk up to the ladder, look at the cup, look at him, and say, excuse me is that your lemonade. He looks at me and says "Yes, that's mine", and goes back to reading the paper! Well, maybe I should have said, sir, can you please move your lemonade, but I thought mine was at least obvious enough. So I just said, well, sorry, but that's my ladder :)

Anyone, so much for my first show. I had about 15-20 bookmarks left, and a lot of business cards. That's good, but bad, of course!

Neil,
I've been watching this thread with interest and wishing you luck. I had participated in 2 art walks here in Seattle last Jan and Feb. Of those art walks I sold only 2 framed prints and 15 cards. I entered with high hopes but it's a tough time to sell in this economy. I did sell a print to the City of SeaTac in their art exhibit. And I've got 2 more city art exhibit's coming up soon and am scheduled for a monthlong show in December of 2011.
So don't get discouraged, you are a great photographer.
