When this challenge was announced, my first readtion was "Here's one that I will be skipping. I could never do that"! But then I started reading some of the conversations going on about how to approach people and the great satisfaction afterward. So I headed out at lunchtime last Wednesday, figuring that the crowds would make it a bit safer. I actually found someone and struck up a conversation, then asked about taking their photo. The answer was yes, so I fired off a few shots.

I then sat down and talked for a about 15 minutes more. He asked about my job, which led to a discussion about his father's job and some funny stories about his mom and dad. Toward the end of the conversation, he was much more relaxed (and so was I), so I asked if I could take a couple more shots which he obliged.

The whole experience was pretty great, and if I can find him downtown again, I am going to give him a photo of himself.

I'll have to work at being able to do this type of shot more often because the satisfaction can often be far more than just getting a great shot.

Way to go, Dan!!! You did good!

For me, it's all about the face. If I see a face I want in my collection, it makes it worth talking to them.

Lisa's Street photographer article guy seems to like to capture beautiful people. I think that would be harder for some reason. Street people tend to be a little more humble and not so full of themselves. Those were cool pictures he got tho, so I'm inspired now to not limit my street shooting to just character faces.

It's going to be a fun challenge to see what everyone comes up with.

I just discovered this guy Marco Sanchez who's quite good. Well worth a look for inspiration and ideas...

For the record this shot by Marco, inspired me to take out my 17-35 which is a lens I never use. It will push everything into a completely different zone from my usual approach....less about the face and more about the body/clothes...movement etc. It will be fun.
