Cowtownmom is working on a pic with CS2 on her Mac and trying to do some masking. The problem is that the soft edged brush is leaving a stippled or splattered appearance around the edge of the mask brush, rather than a smooth fade that results in a natural appearance. Since I'm a PaintShop Pro user, I am not sure what she is not doing right. When I do a similar thing in PSP, I get a brush with a nice smooth fade to it. Anyone know what she needs to select too have this look smooth? |

You need to adjust opacity and flow both. At less than 100% flow, the longer you pause the denser the mark. Be sure also it's a normal brush she has selected, some of them are actually splatter brushes.

.. Is she trying to create (in effect) a selection of just a part of the image?
If so, then I suggest trying Topaz Re-Mask.. It makes masking a breeze..

She's just trying to use it to erase through a layer in order to adjust a sky and foreground separately. She eventually gave up and did it on my "inferior" Windows 7 PC with PaintShop Pro. I told her to look at your responses and see if she understands what to do from it.
I have a difficult time knowing what to tell her to do in an application I am not intimately familiar with. But I know there is some setting or adjustment that is not right. |

I may try it at some point, but we have already determined that the Topaz products will not work on her G4 Mac mini. Also, this is an issue with basic functionality. |

That's what I thought was the issue, but I didn't know what to tell her to use. I think she figured it out from Bear's response. Thanks. |
