I'm just trying to figure out what went "wrong" with my entry for point of color.

In the end I'm perfectly happy with how it performed in respect to comments and the impact it did have upon a narrow section of the DPC crowd..

But, clearly I missed the more massive appeal, and I'm wondering what you think the cause was.

Don't worry, say what you will, I'm not married to this image, and I'm perfectly willing to "murder my darlings" as Louis suggested in the 1x reject thread..

Please, do tell, what did you not find effective in this image.

Thanks all,
Cory B.

Damn, I knew I forgot something! :) (that is going to look very, very random to lots of people I suspect...)

I gave it a 6... that black spot made it a tad lower... had that not been there i would of given it an 7 I loved the concept.

If you can tell me why I need to see at an image of something my pockets are full of and I'm dying to get rid of, then I might be able to help...

LOLO. Honestly....pennies aren't interesting, no matter what you do to them. In fact, money isn't that interesting to look at....thousand dollar bill, whatever.

agree about the black spot, but also the penny just isn't cutting it. It looks overprocessed, and needed to be shinier to create more contrast to its background. I think a quarter on parched dirt might have been a good way to execute this idea as well.

Here is a similar concept image I have in my favourites:

Needless to say, it had my ribbon.

Its simple.
It has a gripping texture.
If has good enough contrast.
And it meets the challenge: 'point' of color (whatever that means to the person who originally suggested the topic, in my interpretation this image meets it perfectly).

Don't know if I can help with any more comments beyond that ;-)

Pam: I like Cory's version much better. Perhaps its just a personal taste:-)

Although I do like the idea of having a quarter or a silver-ish coin on the tar background.

Reminds me of a similar image I took a few months ago.. How cool is that?

I like that nickel image better than your penny. Its bigger than the penny in the composition and thus, in my humble opinion, has better impact. (Though I know Prash is a big fan of the penny photo!)

So, just as a summary... Here's what I've garnered out of this...

The crop was too loose, and the penny was over processed.. Perhaps the overhead view was a bad choice, and it would have been better to have some perspective in the shot. Concrete was wayyy to clean, should have chosen some really f'd up concrete for the shot to add texture.

Thanks Everyone! (particularly Prash and Pam...)
