In the "Boats" challenge my entry finished in 59th place out of 170 entries which I am quite happy with but it received not even one single comment. All the entries from 1 to 170 with the exception of some on the second last page all received comments. Please help me understand why I got none at all. Is my image not deserving of some comment or is so ultimately boring or what.
My own voting and scoring for this challenge was as follows:
You have rated 59 of 170 images (35%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 169 of 170 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.5667.
Ps. Here is an uncropped version of the original scene. Maybe would have been better.

I'd guess that while most people just thought it was a well executed photograph, there was just nothing much to comment on.. In essence it's a very nice image, but rather boring and completely inoffensive. In effect your image was a very pretty fly on the wall..
*shrug* that's just my guess as to why your image didn't get a comment during voting..
ETA: I agree with what Art said in the image comments... It could have done much better with different, more dramatic processing... As it is, it's a touch murky and flat.
Still, not a bad image by any means, and no, absolutely not TOTALLY boring.. It just didn't grab people.. Or at least not anyone who was commenting, as you did get a couple of 10's.... :)

Ps. Thanks for your comment Jennifer :)

I left a comment as well. FWIW, some questions there are no real answers for - like voting and commenting. If some similar or less interesting images got comments and yours didn't, it may simply be the luck of the draw and/or there was something specific that touched the commenter in some way.
Anyway as I mentioned in my comment, more dramatic editing will get you better scores and more comments. ;-) |

Thanks Art. Appreciated, I love your edit :) Hell...you did that very quickly and so damn nice too.
Ps. I will be sending your edit to the owner of the boat who's email address I have.

I didn't find it dull, I like it quite a bit (probably because it has seagulls!) Unfortunately, I didn't vote on that challenge -- I would have give it an 8, because I do think it tells a great story.

Well, I can tell you why I didn't comment. I gave it a 7, and I expect that the better entries will get plenty of comments from others, so I tend concentrate on commenting my midrange and low votes. (I'm not always correct) |
