One of the great catalysts of creativity is the spark that occurs between artists. DPC has no outlet for this tremendously significant mode of expression... until now.

Let's use this side challenge to set aside the reductionist fiction of the Individual Artist, and work together to create beauty. Find a team, whether it's family or friends or an online conspiracy, and create beautiful things together. No restrictions as to content, as long as the creations are yours (in other words, do NOT violate the TOS of the site!). Please also use photographer's comments to describe how you put it together.

Join us! There's no need to sign up, no commitments, no deadlines, but you can use this thread to find collaborators or just put your two cents in. On or around July 1st, I'll start a thread for photos.

I'm thinking this collaboration idea might be fun. But I'm not sure I understand how you're envisioning it would work - can you elaborate?

Whatever you think is fun, do that!! People who live together can just work on each other's images. Other people will have to email images back and forth. You can layer different images, you can edit each other's images, whatever.

And/or the photograph itself can be a collaboration. Two (or more) people set up a shot, the lighting, come up with ideas, etc.

This sounds like a great idea.

I love this. Have done many "real life" collaborative art projects. Never thought about doing it with someone online. Anyone want to pair up?

What a great idea. I'll see if the sibs Steve pointandshoot and Marjory aberration are interested.

No idea. Possibly that's good. Possible to get a real live collaborator right here. Thing is, no pp legerdemain to speak of.

So Erik V and I are busily plotting our collaborative work of art.

I'm shocked that nobody else is into this. Don, are you sending prompts/invites? I think it would be wonderful to see more people's combined efforts!

Jeesh - I didn't mean to quote my own self, just to repair Erik's user name...

It took a little arm twisting but you can count pointy and the pointy sisters in. Both Steve and Marj are pretty busy but we will be working on something. So Don and Skew, are there any rules? Can we use photos from any date? multiple photos? anything we want? Should be a lot of fun.

One rule: have fun.

One rule: have fun.
Those are rules we can live with.

Pointy's team is now complete with our 4th member, tnun. So the team mates pointandshoot, tnun, 2mccs and aberration are ready for the games to begin.

What is the time frame for this Don?

How long will it last?

This could be a lot of fun.

For film shooters...

There is one collaborative idea that I've been wanting to try. It's called a film swap. The gist of it is this: One person shoots a roll of film then sends it to a partner who shoots over the same roll of film. What you get, of course, are double exposures. Frames might overlap (or not), but that's part of the fun. It's all about serendipity and surprise.

There are some technical and logistical things to be aware of -- not rewinding the film fully, underexposing by one stop, etc. -- but nothing too hard to manage.

Here's a Flickr group with more information and lots of samples.

Anyone want to try it? If more than just me, maybe we can pair up partners...

Geesh, I just now saw this. I'd hook up with Clive in an instant, he's my hero; or one of them anyway. But I guess I'm too late for CPN. Lemme think who else might be fun to be different FROM and working WITH...

I'm in!

Would it be ok for you to develop and post.. I'd be glad to start the roll(s) and send it to you.

You want B&W or Color?

(Hell, why limit this to one roll, let's do five, and just post the good ones.)

ETA:

If you can develop B&W we'll use both if you want to do multiple rolls.. (Well, I guess I could, but I don't have the time for the class, and fees aren't cheap! Other than that, we have virtually no development facilities here, excepting Walmart, and I don't think they handle real B&W film, do they? Even if they did... I don't think I'd like the results...)

I also thought it might be fun to have a roll where I provide a "frame" and you provide the subject, and another in the opposite fashion..
