...also check out German captain Philipp Lahm's comments to the CBC:

'I think that FIFA should introduce the technology after this World Cup because big games can turn on these moments. Going in with 2-2 at halftime would have made the match a lot more difficult for us'
—Germany captain Philipp Lahm told CBCSports.ca

(Referring to video replay.)

A missed call in soccer can change the entire game.

thats why i am also not big fan of football. You only score 1 or 2 goals and that too referring affects the games very much. Add to that their reluctance to use technology.

Low scoring games are one reason why I think that the goals should be two feet wider and one foot taller.

Having lived in England and Germany for seven years as a teen, I grew up playing soccer and I love the sport. I enjoyed it long before it the 90's when it started gaining so much in popularity in the U.S., but I could understand why it wasn't more popular than it was here. The game could be a lot more exciting if there were more goals. Sure, I can appreciate even a scoreless game and admire the skills and strategy of the teams and their players, but it would be better if there was more goal scoring.

Another huge benefit to increasing the scoring by increasing the goal size is that the final score would more likely reward the better performing team with a win. Too often I see a clearly superior team beat by one lucky goal, or worse, by an unfairly awarded penalty kick. It is so frustrating to see a team completely outplay their opponents and come so close to scoring a dozen times only to lose by one lucky goal.

Of course, the goals will never change in size. If video replay is so difficult to implement then the world will never change the size of all of the goals. But it would greatly improve the game if it happened.

edit to add: Oh, I forgot to mention the ridiculous solution to a full game that ends in a tie...penalty shootouts!!! How absurd to determine a winner in this fine game by having them take turns taking penalty shots. If the goal size was increased then there would be a lot more scores like 8-3 and 9-6 instead of 0-0 or 1-1. Having to resort to shootouts would happen a heck of a lot less.

Low scoring games make each goal all the sweeter.
