So, I'm in the market for a high end P&S. I really like the feature set of the G11, but feel like I want something at least a bit smaller, and a faster aperture would be nice too. I like the S90 as well, but am sorta unsure about it for a few reasons which I'll get to. I intend to be using it for general use, but also while backpacking and generally on outdoor excursions, however I don't think I really need waterproof protection, as I'm relatively careful with things and the only time my Olympus got submerged was when I wanted it to be.
Reasons I'm hesitant of the S90- I think the smaller (than the LX3) form factor may be an issue for me, as I have larger hands. The 4.9 variable aperture also turns me off a bit. I really like the idea of the control ring, but really feel like the LX3 is a better fit for my needs, which will be more wide-angle oriented and very very rarely involve much zooming.
So here's the rub-
The LX3 has been out for awhile, and Photokina is coming up in September. Do you guys think they'll release an LX4 then? Would you wait to see, or buy now? The other issue I'm having is it is very difficult for me to see any of these cameras in person, with the LX3 being (I believe) completely impossible to see in person. Also, has anybody used the Wide Angle attachment for the LX3? I haven't seen any talk of that in the forums. Do LX3 owners find the lenscap annoying? Is it prone to falling off on its own if you put it in a backpack or similar?

I do find the lens cap annoying on the LX3, it does fall off regularly and it adds a little extra depth to the camera. I need to put the little tag on it so it at least stays attached to the camera.

I have a wide angle convertor (cheap off ebay) and I was very impressed with the quality vs cost, it was about £30 GBP

re zooming, the lx3 has a nifty feature where you can zoom more at a lower resolution ... obviously this is the same as just cropping the image afterwards but you can see exactly what you are taking a pic of rather than just having to crop later.

I've not seen a G11 but the G10 and the LX3 are pretty much the same dimensions. If I carry mine I use a small case with a belt clip as it is not quite pocket sized.

Do you mean total dimensions or just depth at the lens? It seemed like the LX3 was about the same depth as G11 but was smaller in other dimensions.
How wide does your wide angle converter make it? I had seen the Panasonic one that gets it down to 18mm, but the price was sorta steep. Did you need to buy the Panasonic Adapter for use with your converter or did it come supplied with its own?

Any other complaints on the lx3?

sorry, yeah I meant the total depth of the lens, the body is thinner

I have a 0.45x Lens adapter which is 10.8mm. It came with a macro adapter which allows the full frame to be captured without any vignetting. It came with the adapter as well ... like this on ebay

I don't have any pics to hand but I did shoot this video using it ... the camera is mounted about 30cm from my head!

My only complaints are the fiddly lens cap and its easy to knock the pasm wheel, but to squeeze it into a package that small it's to be expected!
