I don't think so. If damsels are like dragonflies (and I'm not positive they are), they carry their legs bent and ahead to make a basket to catch flying bugs. Both the flying snaps look like you could draw an imaginary leaf or stick and they would be find standing on it.

Does it have to be one frame at 1x? or are you just asking from a "how'd he do that point of view"?

I don't think it has to be one frame. I was looking over the comments of the photo and there are some Oooos and Aahhs about the photo. It just didn't look like a "single frame" to me. As far as "how'd he do it" Now that you said it looks like they were standing on a leaf or a stick...I think I know how !

Thanks

One frame or not. Great imagination on coming up with something that looks cool.

Damsels fly a lot slower than dragons... it's very possible he set up the camera and cpatured the damsel in three consecutive frames, then combined in post.

I remember commenting on that one. Cool shot. Too bad we don't see more like that in the challenges. Absolutely nothing wrong with staging but all too often it's just for a ribbon grab so they end up all looking the same. Creativity, imagination, substance are things found only on milk cartons in these assembly line images.

Although, thinking about it, think of the DOF that would be required to get the shot. Also, each damsel goes from sharp to OOF head to tail. I'm convinced it's a composite photo. Still nice though.

I had the same reservations... but after looking closely at the three damsels, I'm convinced that they were shot against the same background. It is very possible that he "followed him in", tracking him with AF as he came in to land. I think the "landed" version is the final frame, and the framing on the other two shots was probably quite different.
