I was doing some helicopter-supported photography in northern Alberta this week. The pilot & I set down in a river valley for lunch. He was puzzled by some trees which had been felled (is that English?) by beaver, but very high up. One of the many downed trees was even chewed at several hights, as if the beaver was making a totem pole.

I believe I know the answer, so I pose the question to you...

How did the beaver do this?

Weird...I don't have a clue.

The first pic looks "photoshopped". I'm still eager to hear the answer however. :)

Edit: *second* picture

They reached it when the river was flooded and the water level was high.

My guess is that it was at different levels of snow pack on the ground. Or do beavers hibernate during the winter?

it was because of the snow level. you can find similar effects of high snow levels in Maine.
