I stumbled across two photography books I thought looked interesting at a bookstore today. Any opinions/recommendations of these books? Mainly, are they informative or is it mostly just pretty pictures with short captions?
Regarding the 2nd, I'm looking for a general all-purpose photography guide (portraiture, nature, etc.), would this one be very useful?

Thanks in advance

Ben,
Regarding the second one, I don't have that one in particular, but I did look at it at the bookstore also, and what I do know is that my photography teacher said the the Photographer's Handbook by John Hedgecoe (which I do have, and use a general photography handbook) is still one of the best for an all-purpose photography guide (it has all the basics). That one has been updated, and I think IMO, from what I looked at in the new manual of photography by John Hedgecoe, it looks awesome! John Hedgecoe is a great author and photographer, and has been around forever, with much experience. I would buy it, and probably will, when I get the funds.

I have "Learning to See Creatively" and have enjoyed what I have read so far. As far as text goes, I wouldn't say it's especially meaty but I do like the side by side comparisons of the photos that clearly illustrate the difference between a good image and one that isn't as compelling.
