i turned on my computer and it said somthing about my desktop being unavalible, and next thing i know everthing has reset and everthing is gone... :'( any help at all???

More details must be helpful :
- which system : windows xp, vista,linux
- a precise error message
- what is gone actually : shortcuts on desktop, all your datas, the walls but not the ceiling? |

yeahman it sounds like your profile got corrupted and windows created a new one for you.
open my computer, look in c:\documents and settings and look for your profile name, you probably will see two, one with something like .001 on the end of it. the one without the .001 is your old profile, just go into it and copy everything from desktop, favorites and my documents into a secure location
ETA: there is actually an easier way to just tell windows to point to your old profile using the registry editor but i hesitate to send a non techie into the registry. if you feel comfortable doing this let me know i will send you an alternate method.

Do you have a disk that you can boot off of? I'd boot off a system disk and do some exploring.
If there's really nothing there, you can try recovery software, but this might be one of those times that it's worth paying someone to do it. They have more options.

| Right, im on vista, i over reacted a lil bit haha, everthing is back now, but vista has like, reset, gone back to the old theme and my desktop icons have gone, some of my programs and their files have gone, and my website faves have gone? any ideas? thanks again. :) |

refer to my earlier post, except since you have vista look in c:\users |

Your datas might be in same the place... Try to search it on your drive, I think you'll find it.
Then you'll learn that you should know were your precious datas are.
and ... everyone MUST BACKUP ! |
