Using Blurb to create my own photographic compilation of work. I'm thinking of selling to friends, relatives, and giving some as gifts. I was wondering if anyone who had made a book with blurb had any advice about composition of the book, how long it should be, how much writing, what to write about, fonts and formatting, etc.

I've made three now; they were show books and a heck of a lot of work, because they were so long. Compiling my work would be much easier because there's less of it, though I guess the harder part would be to add captions, descriptions, etc.
The blurb software is very good. Just take time to get used to it. I found making my own template pages was useful, but in the end, since I had such a variety of layouts, I just ended up hand tweaking most of the pages.
I am also going to eventually tackle a book of my landscapes and/or abstracts. That will get more expensive to do, since then you will want to go with one of the bigger sizes (I just did the 7x7 books for the show pics--they are incredibly inexpensive.)
Actually, I have yet to receive the last two books I made--I just did them a week ago. But the first one (You're a good man Charlie Brown) came out great, and very professional.
