I took this shot while working on my "Centered Composition" entry. Frankly, I decided to enter something else I thought was more appealing. Since then, a few people have told me they really like this shot quite a bit. At the time, it just didn't strike me much, but the more I look at it, I'm starting to see that it might actually be a decent shot. Can someone (everyone, really) tell me what they like/dislike about this one?

I love this shot. I could use a little more contrast, but that's me. I always like this sort of picture, but this one stands out to me because of the water being seen at the bottom (instead of a solid chamber of walls and floors).

I like it but I don't think DPC does it justice. It's just too small here to see all the detail. I think adding some contrast to it would help it stand out a bit more, and add some tonal depth to the perspective depth.

The photo does have some obvious appeal, namely significant physical depth and symmetry.

I have, however, some reservation about the near-precise vertical alignment on the right versus the discernible tilt on the left of the image, something which could easily be balanced by a slight rotation, really.

This is, IMO, quite a difficult photo to balance altogether. It lacks a clear, single horizon. Instead a provides two: the horizontal threshholds of the narrow boxed opening to a washed-out background. The barnacled feet of bridge columns add a much needed weight to the composition. A less contrasted counter weight is provided at the top of the photo via shadows and various markings and irregularities in the cross beams.
Yet, the water (at the base of the image) is quite light, causing the composition to float somewhat. The narrow, stylized format, although apt for the given symmetries, might benefit from a little less water (cropped from the foreground), although I doubt this would be enough to ground the picture to a point of satisfaction.
