About 12 months ago, my camera (D200)took a very short dip in the ocean, well we got splashed by a wave, and since then it has developed a problem with the hot shoe. Once I put on a sb800 it fires with out warning, not all of the time mind you but when ever I tilt the camera but not it I put a bit of pressure on the flash forwards.

Having looked at the hot shoe it looks like there is some play in the connection and the flash. If it wasnt a realy expencive piece of electrial equipment Id just tap it down with a hammer & see it that helped...

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I don't follow how the water splash could cause the gap you're describing. You may have damaged your hotshoe in another incident to cause that, and you may have a short as a result of the water, though that area should be weather sealed. Did it incur any hard hits?
My hotshoe got sorta smashed down at the front part where you initially insert the flash shoe by bouncing around in a boat's hull on the Abel Tasman Sea, but I just carefully bent it up so I could use it again.
Here's another thread with hotshoe damage and the resulting costs of fixing it- hotshoe thread

I would suspect corrosion due to the splash with salt water.
