todd head posted a fair reply. you shouldn't have deleted it. Check out Jacko's home studio. he uses 2 (on camera, but wireless) flash units and some umbrellas. The problem with this is: 1) those flash units go for $300-$400 (depending on which ones he bought) 2) they take AA batteries instead of getting plugged into the wall 3)they don't produce nearly the same amount of power as dedicated strobes (like alien bees) 4) the cost of alien bee units, stands, umbrellas, and softbox will run between $600 and $1700 (depending on what you order)

So the gist of this is: 2 on camera flash units = $600 - $800

or
2 AlienBees B400 Flash Units
2 CB1 Single Light Carrying Bags
 2 LS3050 10-foot General Purpose Light Stands
 1 U48TWB 48-inch Translucent White “Shoot-Thru” Umbrella
 1 U48SW 48-inch Silver/White Reversible Bounce Umbrella

cost $599.00

It makes more sense to purchase the alien bees

Yap but i was thinking of making something more cheaper. Just to start. I would like to know the background settings too. What to use for white and for black i was thinkinhg of sheets or something similar. but to know how to make them stand straight enough not to make does wrinkles.

A king sized white non-fitted sheet, and a few thumbtacks. It works great in a pinch. Pin 2 corners into the wall, and lay the bottom half of the sheet on the floor. You want to make a nice curve from the floor to the wall. Not straight.

For cheap backgrounds, the sheets might do well, if you get a sheet with a higher thread count. And one of the sites on ebay suggests that the backgrounds can be starched to get the smooth flat look. But they might have something you coul dgrab pretty cheap:
