I was going to submit a photo for the macro challenge. I read that you should not use Flash when taking a macro photo. My lighting at home sucks! Can you suggest what I can buy that is very inexpensive so that I can have better lighting for photos at home? A friend suggested getting a bunch of desk lamps, but I thought that would look to harsh if I were taking photos of a person.

Thanks

I bought a workshop lamp, something like this: double lamp.
They are so powerful that pointing both up at the ceiling makes an incredibly bright indirect light that is fairly shadow free. Plus you have all the other options like using only ONE of them, or pointing them elsewhere, combining it with a translucent umbrella etc.
Re flash and macro: at times it IS possible, especially if you bounce the flash of something, it all depends on your subject.

I just found one of those twin lights on ebay for $29.99 "buy-it-now".

Or, if you have a Sears nearby, you can save on shipping costs...

I have one of those that I bought at Sears. It is very bright. As was already mentioned, you have the option of using only one or the other of the lights. Plus, each light has two intensity settings, so you can opt for bright or really bright. One thing to consider with something like these lights, however, is that they put out some pretty good heat along with their light.
