This is weird...in the last 24 hours I've had 3 shutterstock downloads! I'm not sure where these are coming from all of a sudden, but I've got to submit some more photos!

Why would you sell the same photo on iStockphoto that you are selling through DPCPrints? Aren't you undercutting yourself?

Anybody need a $40.00 print they can have done for about $5.00 now? (download and print-cheaper if you print it yourself)
Here is another question. I buy the download for this. Make it a little bigger and then upload to DPCPrints to have it printed about 20 times for friends. Acceptable? Note I did not sell it to them. What they do with it afterwards is their thing. Wouldn't someone be able to set up a print store or something this way?

Is there anyway to see your total earnings thus far, instead of just by month earnings? I cannot find it if there is.

If there is I haven't found it either. I hope this is something they add soon :)

I was wondering the same thing, It would be nice to see your downloads a bit better! and Total earned all together

ok so i thought it would be cool to try some images on the shutterstock site. my first 6 attempts all got denied. a few i understand why because they were car shots with logos/brand names showing.... but these 2 do not have any logos or brand names. the reason is B.S. in my opinion... "Not Approved: Too many like it on site/Not needed right now"
but the fact is there are zero yellow sports cars (that i can find at lease) so i would think there IS a need for them. maybe my pics suck. i dont know, but i'm bummed out. ARG!

anyone else having this problem?

11/04/2004 03:33:21 PM · #233
The car itself can cause problems though, even if the logo isn't displayed (as far as I know)...

I'm a buyer for the automotive department of a retail chain and I just finished a bunch of automotive battery decals in conjunction with one of our suppliers and we had to turn down one of their designs...it showed a Chrysler Sebring, and although the logo or any identification had been cloned out we had heard that Chryler has been picky about the use of their automobiles in designs without their approval.

E-mail them and ask...they're usually very speedy in responding to help.

I would suggest contacting someone from Shutterstock.

i'm thinking this site is a big waste of my time... i just got denied a really good zebra picture. yeah there are 5 or so other zebras, but mine is way better levels and composition than the ones there.

so far i've only got 1 approved out of 10.

i was really excited about this, not i'm just frustrated and about to call it quits.
11/04/2004 03:51:58 PM · #237
... one more thought.... i thought a stock photography site was supposed to have MANY choices of ALL subjects... what if my zebra was the exact pose somebody wanted, and didn't like the other ones.... come on guys, whats the problem?
11/04/2004 04:03:21 PM · #238
I typed in zebra and only got about 6 zebra photos...I'm a little surprised they're not taking yours as well especially if it's a different setting or pose than those already available. Do you mind posting it here, just out of curiosity?

I don't see it as underselling... I see it as diversifying.... I've sold a few prints on DPCPrints. I haven't sold any of those 2 pics as prints but they're making me money on 3 different stock sites.

You also have to know that the clientele from DPCPrints is very different than the stock sites. One does not impeed on the other. They are 2 very diffrent services.

That would depend.... I'm sure a lot of the buyers at DPCPrints are the photographers at the other two stock sites :P

sure... here it is, and of course i submitted it without my URL... there is one zebra with an almost identical pose, but mine is better.

wow melking.. that is crazy many.. i got quite a bit more traffic too the last 2 days... but not THAT much at all.. way to go.

how many images do you have up there now?
11/04/2004 04:46:00 PM · #243
Hmm...strange, wickedpete, that looks like a great photo of equal or better calibre than the ones already on the site. I'm truly surprised they didn't go for it...

Don't get discouraged...keep at it!

I'm not from the US as well, but there's no problem with the address. However, none of my photos have been downloaded yet...

Edited because I was remembering the Paypal site.

Looks like you guys are dissapointed with Andrea's approval/denial of photos.. we're going to look into this tommorow..

she's being way too strict!

I'll let her know exactly what we should be allowing.

thanks
Jon

Any way to resubmit the ones already denied? I think several of mine should have been accepted.

Hi,
not to change the subject, but could someone explain the "ftp" upload system to me briefly? I just got a DSL but have been uploading the html way - is there something I would need to get to upload the ftp way? thanks.

You need an FTP client; there are several excellent free ones. If you're using Windows, Shutterstock has a link to CoffeeCup's FTP, and there's one I use from Wise. If you're on a Mac, check out Fetch, v.3 or 4.

Further instructions are on the Download with FTP page at ShutterStock.

You'll need to download some sort of ftp client. You can get free ones from any download site like download.com. I use ws_ftp. I know some people use cute_ftp. Then you can connect to the site and upload your photos that way.

thank you! it sounds like a much faster system? I will look into the downloads.
