The sinking feeling of realizing your work is lost. I saw a photograph that I really liked in the Complexity challenge. I wrote a nice long comment about all the things I liked and disliked about the particular image. My experience is limited but I share what I can. Then, before submitting my vote, I decide to add the photograph to my favorites and all the sudden, my beautiful, well crafted, and deeply thought out comment is replaced with "Enter your comment here, and then cast your vote..."
ARGH!!!!!
So, is there a way to preserve the comment when clicking on the favorites/wishlist options?

did you try pressing 'back'?? |

Select all the text and copy to the clipboard ... then paste it back in when the page refreshes. I do that all the time with any long comment or post, because of prior experience with getting "timed-out" using a slower or unstable internet connection.
Or else record your vote, then go back and add it to the Favorites list later. |

Paul (GeneralE) has some good suggestions. But what you describe is a known bug (and "on the list") that hopefully D&L will be to address in some future update. |

bpickard, yes I did. Didn't work.
GeneralE, thanks. Now that I know the result, I can work around it. The suggestion was more geared towards the next poor soul that may learn this lesson the hard way though.

This 'bug' can be found in many, many sites. I think the GeneralE's advice about habitually copying and pasting is very, very sound. |

That has happened many times to me. I do use a notepad, but it still happens.

I'm so glad I found this thread. This has happened to me twice while commenting in the Oct Free Study challenge. I'll just have to remember to copy my comment before I check favorites, (or check favs FIRST!).
The second time it happened, I had made a very lengthy comment - had re-read it to make sure I had said everything that I wanted to, and said it correctly, and was appalled to see it gone, and of course, couldn't duplicate the comment exactly. Arrghhh!
Does anyone on SC know whether this issue is something that is still "on the list", or something we will just have to live with and adjust to?
Thanks!

Yep. I do this all the time, with comments, web forms and webmail. It's just easier in case the connection screws up.
I've got into the habit of regularly doing CTRL+A, CTRL+C, CTRL+END. That will select the text, copy it, and move the cursor to the end.

It is definitely still "on the list". D&L are focusing on DPCPrints right now (although from what I understand, their "real life jobs" have prevented them from dedicating as much time as they'd like to the enhancements, so they aren't sure when they will be done.) After DPCPrints is done, they'll hopefully start here on the DPC side. |

Hasn't DPC gotten big enough to become their real life jobs yet? Sheesh.

I keep asking them that same question, and they just laugh and say "We wish!!" |

Similar thing has happened to me several times...I leave an excellent description of conditions, editing, thoughts etc. in "Photographer's Comments" for a challenge entry.
Then when I submit it, it's a few KB too big because I forgot to lower the quality I saved it as and all my info gets lost!
That's why several of my comment fields for challenge entries have one liners...I just didn't want to type it all over again...

I was going to start this thread to warn others as it happened to me in the October Free. I left a message for a great shot in its comment box, thought I'd first save it as a favorite. That worked well but the comment was erase (back button brought me back to the thumbnails). Still glad I saved it to my favorites but hated having to remember then retype the comment. |
