Yes, this course is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. It is done by a local photography college here in Brisbane. Another member here pointed it out to me on an Australian photo site we both frequent.

Not sure how you'd find one locally, but I'd suggest contacting a local photography club, they might at least know where you might call to find out if any colleges in the area run anything like this.

Be sure that the school doesn't suck. I've seen plenty of boobs out there offer workshops and classes and they can't shoot their way out of a box.

Because everyone seems to be attracted to his Alien Bees line. Yes, both of these lines are from the same person (Paul C. Buff or Laup C. Ffub). :-)

I know what you mean but no, this is a photography college with a great reputation. I've done the first two nights of the course now and have learned absiolutely heaps already, it is an excellent course :)

I also just picked up a heap of great backdrop material pretty cheap. Local material/sewing place has a sale on and they have lined material, I think for making curtains, that is stoinewashed. Got about 6 different coloured splotchy backgrounds now, 5 only 4' by 8' (so great for portraits) and one 9' x 9' as a full backdrop. Because of the plastic backing they roll op perfectly and do not crease at all, which is a bonus :)

Very cheap way to get decent (not perfect but decent) backdrops. Will put up an example if anyone wants to see.

One thing is for sure, after having read thru his tutorial on studio lighting...it becomes quite obvious that this is more of a MARKETING tool for self-contained systems than a unbiased text. Anyone who's ever work with proffessionnal studio gear knows that PowerPack systems are much better, much more accurate in tunning, much easier to work with (because of having 100% control over every single unit at one source). Of course they are generally much more expensive...but that has nothing to do with the comments on poor reliability and failure rates....
