Saw it from my dorm room and went down to check him out. Let me get about 10 feet away from him which was pretty intense. He just let me keep snapping until I filled up my card!

Wow. Great shots! Disturbing when the squirrel is in the picture though. Thanks for sharing.

Good capture Logan - what lens did you use?

The lens is just a cheap sigma 100-300. I'm thinking of selling it to get a 70-200L. It's just not very good in low light at all!

Beautiful shots of nature as designed. Red-tailed hawk eating squirrel.

Those are some wonderful shots. I think true nature is not cruel but the way it is supposed to be. Much better than a hunter out there with a gun killing some innocent animal. This is just my opinoin.

We meat eaters dine on beef, chicken, fish, sheep, goat, moose, caribou, rabbit, squirrel, etc..

Hawks are fond of squirrel, birds and anything else that moves, and is not greatly bigger than they are.

Terrific nature photographs. You may never again have such an opportunity.

Well I might because that bird lives in the tree outside my window ;-)

I would love to have that hawk around here, we have an overpopulation of squirrels here. They are a menace.

Great series of shots, kyebosh! That is an immature (hatched this Spring) Redtail Hawk... you can tell because the tail, which is slightly visible in the 3rd photo, is barred buff and cream color rather than the brick red it will be after his first moult. The mortality rate of Redtails is very high during their first winter, maybe as high as 85%. They don't often take squirrels, which are tough customers, but somebody didn't give this guy the memo. He was hungry, evidenced by his choice of prey and also his refusal to leave it when you got so close. Really great shots!
