Very interesting. CNN is calling quite a few states without a single vote being counted. So far the only Bush state is OK, but they've called IL, MA, ME, MD and NJ for Kerry. Of course those first four are pretty reliable, but NJ was in play, so this seems a bold leap. Were they just tired of seeing Bush leading the electoral vote count by 50+?

This is the thing I hate about election night...

I hope so, but I have a feeling it wont.

I'm confident it will be. I think that the electoral college vote will be decisively in Kerry's favor, and the electorate is so polarized that they'll break clearly one way or another. Also, if turn out is as high as it's being predicted, I can't imagine that that level of voter turn out would be to support the status quo. When that many people are motivated enough to do something, it's because they want change.

CNN, had New Jersey as a predicted win, Now Bush looks good.

I think it will be very close.

For a more conservative (i.e., careful) approach at reporting early returns, looks at the CSPAN map.
