I just can''t seem to be able to adjust my monitors correctly although I have been consistant. I have found I am better off not adjusting anything in Photoshop because of this.
My entry for Shadows is, I think, my best so far and I have tried to get it just right. In doing so I have printed the results of several different adjusted attempts of the same photo. The adjustments were basically to lighten some areas I could not see on the monitor. (the shot looks almost black and white) After printing I discovered the things I thought were black (like most of the border) were actually quite visible in a subtle sort of way which is what I wanted anyway. The one I had lightened looked kind of washed out. I realize a slightly cropped (minus about 20%) and reduced to 640x480 won''t print well at 5x7 but I ''think'' my printer tells me more than my monitors at work and at home do.
How can I solve this problem and how can I determine which one to submit? Thanks, David

I have the same problem in getting the printed result that mirrors the on-screen image. For purposes of posting to the web, I would not bother with what it looks like printed, but rather adjust your monitor using ICC profile for your monitor. I am just learning about these things myself, so don't take what I say as gospel! Look for information on ICC profiles and see if you find anything that helps.
