"Our church uses visual presentations as part of our worship service. I occasionally use images in connection with Bible versus. Scripture can come alive when it is expressed with dramatic images such as yours. I respectfully ask your permission to use some of your images from time to time for this purpose only. The images will not be printed or reproduced in any form. The images will be shown on a projector during our service for a few seconds at a time.

God bless.

Unsigned, no subject, nothing, what should I reply? Or should I? I don't mind allowing them to project my images in a church, but shouldn't they atleast sign themselves or atleast tell me which church where is it and such? What would you guys do?

I'm very suspicious of unsolicited email so I would just trash it without replying.

I'd ask - just to satisfy your curiosity about who, what, where... and then say why not. :)

I'd be weary for a few reasons. First, I'd definately want to know which church it was. Secondly, my friend while growing up's father was a pastor at just a small church, and he pulled in over $150,000 a year from donations and what not (I think that might even be the max you're allowed to take), his house was paid for, and he got a free car too. Asking for money for the photographs wouldn't be a bad thing, but like I said, I'd check out the church first.

If everything seems legit like it seems to be a place where a lot of people go who just honestly love the Lord, then I'd be okay with it. I'm not trying to get on church topic or anything, but A LOT of the churches around here just have members that go once a week and give a ton of money to because they feel that's what makes them a christian.

Use your judgement, DEFINATELY ask questions, and even go check the place out before you make up your mind.

Also I'm curious how they got my email because I have it hidden anywhere, and on sites where I can't hide it I use another one.

They aren't asking for your original file, as far as I can see. They are asking permission so as to be legit. Let's pretend they don't ask for your file, they use it this Sunday, don't tell you, and nothing changes. You would never know. Why would they contact you? I'm wary of Nigerians. I'm weary of having to worry about this kind of stuff in today's world. Either way, good luck with it!

Get more information! Sounds like good exposure for you. Who knows what may come out of it, as long as they give credit to you, geez, what if the head guy at National Geographic is a member of the church! You never know....
As long as you feel they are credible.

I'm sure if it was legit they would have all sorts of details for you.

Personally I would,t touch it, maybe they will contact you with further info but replying to whoever it is is confirming your email address.

Now the other thing is if they can afford a projector and a lap top, they can afford the couple of dollars to get your photo off a stock site.

And if the projector and laptop are donated, maybe from a local business that recently upgraded theirs?

I'd simply ask the questions that you feel need answering. Then research the reply...

- Is the church a real one?
- Is the person really associated with that church?

If so, then use any additional information you have to make a decision.

That's what I wrote to them, I have no problem with it as long as they clearly introduce themselves and the church + any other details to me. Thanks all for the replays. It's weird because I usualy don't reply to people who doesn't sign theyr mails, but this time I thought maybe they are really church people not so familiar with internet etiquette and such.

I would be carefull, I was asked by a new user of this site to use one of my images on a poster for a book store reading fair of some type. I have yet seen the pint they promised me or anything else for that matter.

Our church uses "visuals" nearly every Sunday, and they are always used with permission of the artist, and the artist's name is clearly visible. (This applies to songs as well.)

It is my understanding however, that the church is open and upfront in contacting anyone about their work, and provides complete contact information, including a contact name, as well as address, phone and email for the church as well as alternate contact info, and full disclosure as to the intended uses of the work.

Good Luck with your decision.

I got this reply from him,
"My name is Tim Hogan. I live in the Dallas area. My family and I attend Valley Ranch Baptist Church. I needed an image that to fit Psalm 139:4 - "Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord". Your image of the woman talking on her cell phone works. Thank you for allowing me to use it."

Since I only posted that image on stock photography sites, they already bought it I don't know if they even needed to ask my permission at all for it, so it's not a scam or anything like that. I checked the church exists, everything is cool. It also explains how they got my email. Thanks all for your thoughts.

Obviously they went about things the wrong way with that first email. They should have just told you who they were and how they were going to use your image that they purchased. It must be nice to know who's downloading your stock images heh.
