Being of the mathematical type, I've generally left my artistic influence oppressed. Today, my goal was to listen purely to that side, both in picture taking and post processing (nothing fancy, it's just CompuPic Pro). I revisited my complexity challenge subject, a statue called "Leatherlips" in Scioto Park, Dublin, Ohio. I took a variety of different shots (around 100) and the result of it all: 11 shots in 2 series that just a month ago I would've never thought to have put together. So here's for stepping outside your comfort zone... Please give me advice, anything. Any resemblence of human life. Thanks.

Actually, I think your pictures are kinda cool.

As I was looking at them I wished for a stereogram. Have you ever tried that? It's actually pretty simple:

1) Take one picture
2) Step 6 inches to the left or the right and take another picture of the same thing. Try to frame the 2nd image as closely as possible to the way you framed the first one. And definitely don't adjust any settings (focus, aperture, speed, white balance).
3) Print the two photos and put them side by side. Stare past them (or you can use the crosseyed approach, but that gives me a headache) until you can merge the two images into one.

Actually, the "6 inches" really depends on how far away the subject is. If the subject is fairly close, then 2 inches may be sufficient. I had a friend who did one of a waterfall high up in the mountains an he moved about 20 feet between the two pictures and it turned out awesome. The thing is, if you don't move far enough, you won't see a stereo image. If you move too far, you eyes won't be able to merge the two images.

It would be interesting to see what those images of yours look like... so if you have the time and interest, give it a shot.

Here's a sample of one I did of my boy. He's only about 5 feet away and so I only moved the camera about 2 inches.

Thanks for the comments, I'm going out early this morning, I might have to stop there and try it.

I went down to Scioto Park this morning, but I haven't yet assembled a Stereogram. I took the pictures for it, but I'm not sure how they'll turn out.

I did manage since my trip to edit two other shots, so I'll post those for, well, any sort of response.

I'd be happy to put them together into a single picture ready for viewing and/or printing for you. Send me a private message if interested.

I really like the tones and clean black & white contrasts you got with these. Being an abstract lover, I really enjoyed these photos of yours. What is your typical B &W workflow? Whatever it is, it is awesome.
