Moving to a new thread for this topic, what are the best deals you've ever gotten on used equipment (and where?), and, what is your worst "burn" (gotten stung on a used deal)?

I just bought a Canon 80-200mm on eBay and it turned out to be a steaming pile of crap, even at the bare bones price I paid for it. I've got scorch marks all over my ego.

Is the lens just not a good lens? Or has it been mistreated?

A bummer. Unless you buy new be wary of used lens unless you get them from a reputable dealer where you can test, see and feel the darn thing. You pay a little more but you will have less regrets.

It has a physical flaw in that the zoom action is rough, but even if it were not for that, it's a piece of crap. It's a good lesson for me to learn. Daniel's advice is well-taken.

Used is almost never worth it when you pay almost as much as you would for a new lens.
