again, and won't be doing any more comments like that unfortunately. As much as many of us really do want helpful comments to learn from, it just isn't worth the argumentative PM's you receive. I am so sorry if I offended anyone else today in my comments; I thought they were fiar and helpful and non-offensive. I am very disappointed.

Don't give up Kylie! Far more people appreciate it than complain about it. It's frusterating and sad that people post their photos here to get opinions on them, and then bitch when they get it.
10/28/2004 11:25:43 PM · #3
Well, it wasn't even the complaint that got me, it was the "defense" that was unfounded. I hate myself for not helping those who honestly wonder "why did I score low", "what could I do better", but then I hate the PM's from the others.

Give me the username and I'll hunt them down for you!!

hehe.

Seriously, you really just have to plain ignore that type of person. All they want is validation and brown-nosing. They think they're better than they are, and nobody can tell them otherwise.

The next time you get a PM responding to a comment you made that even begins to be negative or nasty, just hit "delete".

As hbunch says.. 99% of the people out there are happy to get a good constructive comment.

I definately understand. I commented about the hideous border on a photo once, and got not one, not 2, but THREE nasty PM's about it. He also argued my opinion. lol. that one cracks me up. An opinion can't be WRONG. It's one persons opinion. LOL.

I just went through some of yuor comments and they are fine. Ignore the complaints and justifications.

Or if you really want to stop them from complaining, write back and say that you won't this time, but in the future, if they write to you and expose their identity while the challenge is on, you will deduct one point from their score.

You could even put that on your page, or more simply that you don't want PMs to discuss ongoing challenges.

But don't stop commenting. Your comments are fine and much appreciated.

Don't stop commenting Kylie - I really appreciated the comments you gave me on some of my pics. Don't worry about people who can't take critiscism, they obviously don't know how to see things from a different point of view.

Ignore it! If you can't take constructive critiscism then go away. I have appreciated the comments given to me. I know I screwed up the size of my photo but I didn't blast back. Keep em' coming Kylie.

Geez, thank you people. You really helped put things in a better perspective. I feel like I have failed becuase I have been guilty of giving too many "This is great" comments. BUT I mean it when I say that!!!! I will keep trying - even though I don't produce great photos, I really have learned a huge amount of what makes one.

Kyle I have not received a comment from you as of yet but PLEASE donĂ¢€™t stop commenting. At least you try to help people with your comments. Feel free to comment on my photographs anytime. Constructive criticism is the best teaching tool in photography.

Only if you tip them off about it! heh.
honestly though, anyone worth their salt will agree that you've got some great stuff in your portfolio.

Don't let that get to you -- keep commenting, PLEASE!!! for those of us who appreciate them.

If someone has a problem with the way you percieved their photo and you represented those thoughts in a constructive manner, then it's their loss. Even if I got a comment such as "your photo sucks" I wouldn't care because if a person actually thought that way, I'd want to know -- although that 'comment' could be made more simply by just clicking the '1' ... I'd still appreciate the extra effort.

I thank you for the comment you left me yesterday and don't want you to stop posting comments. For one, it will hold your own progress back and only defeats the purpose of being here, which for me, is to learn. Posting criticisms on photos in a challenge are a great way to organize your thoughts regarding an image and helps you to define what a good photograph is and what it is for you that you like. Don't deny yourself this learning experience. Take whatever they said with a grain of salt knowing that you don't have to meet them in person and move on with your own photographic experiences. It's their problem...don't make it yours.

From my point of view....we need more people on here like kylie and art.......always have something nice to say. They seem like actual, honest people!! Not just nit-pickin the minute things in a pic, yet looking at the whole feeling of a shot, instead of dwelling at the technical aspects of it! I feel the same way strongly! It is a pleasure and a blessing to have such here. Feeling over funtion will get me everytime.

Amen!

i got some 'not so constructive feedback' both irrelevant and in bad taste. that kind of feedback i suppose people could keep to themselves. HOWEVER, quoting the 20/80 principle, the feedback i received with advise or tips or just plain constructive, i gobbled up and file it in my memory for use everytime i press the shutter. the good news is in my case the latter represents 94%(i checked). and i can see the results in my photos. i must also beg kylie not to stop giving constructive feedback. we all need to hear and see our postings through other eyes. don't give up.... we need you.
10/29/2004 12:12:27 AM · #22
And thank you for the comment you have left on all my images. Do not let these few stop you and best to ignore when they shoot back in a very unfriendly manner.

If you must write back tell them: You probably know more than I do, I did not know you only wanted compliments.
10/29/2004 12:12:44 AM · #23
you know i've found that more often than not people do either take your advice or they just don't mark your comment as helpful.
Kaylie right now i think there are a shortage of comments don't stop just cause some one had a bad and wants to unload.i've had a couple of those myself just ignor them.[note to "Those people":life goes on]

anyway by my math i have had-Votes:187 w/only 1 com.

so not enough people are commenting i am at a low score in "Poverty" and it has not been explained to me.

keep commenting and don't give up many others and i reliy upon what you have to offer us in the way of advice.

WOW - I have to say I am honestly overwhelmed by the response to this thread. WOW. On that note - I will certainly keep trying to help more and not just give my "I love it" comments (which, again, I only say if I mean it!). Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. THIS is what DPC is all about!
10/29/2004 12:24:50 AM · #25
when i personally take a photo, i look at it so much that i cant even tell if it is good or bad anymore. Sometimes i like to get an opinon about it and alot people dont comment. like when 150 people looked at your thread but no comments thats a downer. you are one of the few people i can rely on giving your critisism when you are online, you are a dying breed, and your comments will always be appreciated by me and many others as you can see on this thread.
