I just entered my 3 pics for Istock, and got accepted, I then sent them again for the galleries, and they were rejected, for noise.... pah (they were my best too).. so I sent this one pic, which was just the top of a wall all crumbled with small bits here and there... and it was accepted... strange

Did anyone else that is signed up with Bigstockphoto.com get a email with free credits....?

I read a lot about rejection rates in here, so I'll post my numbers for comparison:

38/52 on Istock
26/55 on Dreamstime
21/23 on Shutterstock

and Canstockphoto is a joke. I think I'm 11/12 but only had one download in 4 months. *roll eyes*

I've had 4 DL on shutterstock in 5 days with only 10 pics uploaded. To me, that's not bad.

Woo! My first three submissions for admission at istock were accepted. Now I just need to take more photos to start uploading. :)

Yeah! Just sold my first 2 photo's on Dreamtime... $1.00 richer I'll take 2 x 0.50c so they can jingle in my pocket :)

Shutterstock 16/16 $0.20
Istockphoto 12/14 $0.10
Dreamstime 5/16 $0.00

Slow going so far but I need to take and upload a lot more pictures to become effective :)

for a long time dreamstime made me more $$ than istock.. but now that has changed. Canstock...... still sitting at one download.
Shutterstock... i think there is 5 allready... i think it will catch up to istock and dreamstime within a month.

istock is by far the hardest to upload to, then dreamstime.. canstock and shutterstock accepted about the same ones... they are new though.. and need more images.

Its very good to have some sites like Shutter Stock accept perfectly good images that have very limited amount of noise at 100%. Istock is a little too picky and sometimes I think they deny something without reason, it makes me mad. But what are you going to do.

This is actually interesting because I've had about three images rejected by shutterstock for 'poor quality' that both Istock and Dreamstine have approved.

Oh I've had plenty rejected too. It's like a fun little game to see who is going to reject what and for why. One day it may make logical sense.

Haha, i honestly dont think we will ever figure out why they really dont take some of our good pics. Like jmsetzler said, he had a perfect set up with perfect lighting and shot a shot at 100ISO and it got rejected for noise. Not very fair.

Leaf's assessment on the acceptance by these online stock agencies is fairly accurate. Several are starting to make SOME money at these places. Can one make any significant money through these places? Yes, I think you can with the right approach (even some pros might consider looking at these places for the rapid feedback stats they provide).

My husband recently wrote a history on stock photography (covering the last decade), that I think members of this forum would find very interesting. It also compares istockphoto, Dreamstime, CanStockPhoto and ShutterStock, as well as giving an interesting history lesson on stock photography over the past decade:

//www.inkjetart.com/news/archive/IJN_10-28-04.html#5

(My husband is currently a consultant for Inkjetart.com. He writes a monthly newsletter for them.)

We both have over two decades of experience in the stock photography business, but we still learn from even the newbies. One needs to keep an open mind. DPChallenge is a great resource for the beginner, and even veterans can learn a thing or two ;) I'm new here, and enjoying the view!

Update:

Shutterstock (18) $6.99
Istockphoto (16) $3.10
Dreamstime (9) $1.00

I haven't uploaded anything in about a month...so I've made about $10 with hardly any uploads in just over a month. Even at this measly rate of uploading I'm on my way to making about $100 in the next year.

I think I may begin to take this more seriously, especially since istockphoto is doubling their payout!

ok i have just read all the posts in this string and i just have 1 thing to say about ISTOCKPHOTO if your image gets rejected and YOU think its BS (you like the pic and think it will sell) RESUBMIT IT!!!! they have over 30 people judging the pics. just cuz 1 person turned it down dont mean that the next guy wont think its the pic of the year. we tested this. we uploaded 10 pics 6 were accepted and 4 rejected. resubmitted the 4 and 2 were accepted and 2 rejected. resubmitted the 2 and 1 rejected. so keep plugging at it.
