Can anybody tell me how I can make a hockey card in Photoshop CS with one of my images as the player?

Or here. DCS Sports Cards
Look closely at each of these and try to copy what they have done.
Not exactly a step by step approach, but if you want that, maybe you should take a PS class. (;

It could probably be done using a template where you create a document with the background colour you want and then mask off areas for the photo and any text. Most books on PS describe the process of creating a template.
