I have an N65 and two quantaray lenses right now and am on the verge of buying only the body for the D70. I know that there is a magnification ratio that takes place with the switch but i dont think it will bother me much. has anyone used the quantaray lenses with their D70 or does quantaray = crap

I'm pretty sure Quantaray is an off brand and is not known for having outstanding quality. I browse the Nikon SLR Lens section at dpreview.com occasionally and have never seen Quantaray mentioned, let alone compared to Nikon and Sigma lenses.

How are you satisfied with them on the N65? You should expect similar performance on a D70 (plus a possible increase in corner sharpness due to the D70 only using the center area of the lens).

The magnification factor on the D70 is 1.5 (for example, an 18 mm lens shows a crop similar to a 28 mm lens). If you are looking for a starter kit, I bought the kit 18-70 and the Nikon 70-300 G and am happy with the combination. The 70-300 G can be had for $99 at B&H (grey market).

Quantaray does not equal crap. Quantaray is a brand often seen at Ritz Camera stores. The clerks will tell you that major lens manufacturers make these lenses, thereby implying that there is no discernable difference.

1st, really good glass costs. The features of the lens plus the minimum/maximum f stop will factor into the price. //www.naturfotograf.com Try this link for info on Nikkor lenses. A SF (single focal) 50mm f/1.8 can be had for a hundred bucks (US) and is an excellant piece of glass for the money. Start with the D70, 50mm, your 2 quantarays, then add/replace at your own pace.

A solid D70 system with Nikkor f/2.8 glass will run around 5 grand.

Quantaray is the Ritz Camera brand. Lenses are made by Sigma.
