I like the fan. But, the first thing I noticed and the first thing you must change is the flash. Builtin flash: BAD! The flash on the camera makes harsh shadows underneath things, makes textures flat because it's straight on with the subject angle, and tends to make unflattering pictures of people.

Try using natural light. It's so much better.

I find the left hand side of the photo a little distracting. You are the subject of the image. The composition would be better in portrait format concentrating on the right. I like the fan as an accessory which adds a nice feeling of modesty and concealment.
Hope you are keeping well.

I think the knives in the background work if this is an environmental portrait and they are important to you for some reason. But, I don't like that your back is turned towards the knives and you are on the right side of the frame with your body turned out (to the right). I think if you were to turn so you were facing into the frame it would help establish a relations between you and the things you have included with you in the frame (knives, etc). If those things are not important, swich to a verticle frame and try to exclude anything that is not absolutely necessary. (Just my opinions, there really is not right or wrong here)

I think Nusbaum has some great insights. I just couldn't get over the yucky lighting. :) It's a HUGE pet peeve of mine.

And one more : I think the pottery, the knifes, the fan and the chair all add to an historic atmosphere .... which is then suddenly broken by your t-shirt. Some more subdued colors, like the ones in your portfolio image, would be much more fitting to the total image.

I like Self-II better. It's very nice. The exposure is better, lighting more even between the shadows and highlights and between you and the background, and the quality of the light is warmer. I think it makes your skin look ten times more beautiful.

Maybe try to light the picture from the side a bit, to avoid the hard, bright highlights reflected right in the center of your eyes.

Except those look like bayonets to me. Maybe she's talking to us through a Civil War time portal!
